Guidelines on Exemption from Chinese Language Courses for International Undergraduate Students
at Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen
To align with our commitment to “student-centered education that fosters individual growth and success”, HIT offers international undergraduate students with strong proficiency in Chinese—the ability to converse fluently and read discipline-specific materials in Chinese—the opportunity to apply for exemption from Chinese language courses. Upon approval, students will receive credits for the courses without the need to attend classes, and the grades will be marked as “Exempt”. These courses will not be factored into their GPA calculation. The exemption policy is as follows:
International undergraduate students whose primary language of instruction is English may apply for an exemption from “Elementary Chinese I” and “Elementary Chinese II” if they have achieved HSK Level 3 or above. Please note that the HSK score is valid for 2 years. To qualify for the exemption, applications must be submitted while the score is valid and must remain valid through the completion of the Elementary Chinese courses.
International undergraduate students whose primary language of instruction is English may apply for an exemption from “Intermediate Chinese I” and “Intermediate Chinese II” if they have achieved HSK Level 4 or above. Please note that the HSK score is valid for 2 years. To qualify for the exemption, applications must be submitted while the score is valid and must remain valid through the completion of the Intermediate Chinese courses.
